WE MADE IT!

At approximately 2 p.m. we made it to the end of the Mississippi River!! Additionally, we read enough minutes to equal 798 more miles, so our rafting LSA reader made it even farther out into the Gulf of Mexico. Thanks to all our classes for their special emphasis on reading today. LSA Warriors really do READ!!

Reading Tom Sawyer

Fourth graders read Tom Sawyer this week. They read part of it for Read Across America today.

Read Across America Continues

We're to Kentucky now!!
It appears that the Cat in the Hat visited one of our classes earlier today to help in our celebration!

At Noon on Read Across America Day

By noontime we were to Hannibal, home of Mark Twain, author of our Alabama Reads novel - The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Today is the birthday of another author, Dr. Seuss. We are celebrating both of these today with an emphasis on Mark Twain and Tom Sawyer as we read our way down the Mississippi river.

READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY

We started our raft trip down the Mississippi River where the river begins. For every minute our students read, we moved 3 1/2 miles down the river.
Tom Sawyer came to visit and watch as we moved our raft.

Mrs. Hodges class wins the Pig Race!

The high selling classes in the annual magazine sales drive each earned a pig for the pig race. The cheering was loud as students supported their favorite pigs. Mrs. Hodges 5th grade's pig was the "fastest" and first across the finish line. Her class will receive a "Pig Out Party." Thanks to all of you who purchased magazine subscriptions and helped us have a successful fundraiser for the library and the Junior Class.
